THE HON. Mrs Carrie Lam, GBM, GBS

Chief Executive, Hong Kong Special Administration Region

Mrs Carrie Lam joined the Administrative Service of the Hong Kong Government in August 1980 and rose to the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade A1 in September 2006. She became a Principal Official on July 1, 2007 when she was appointed Secretary for Development. She was appointed Chief Secretary for Administration on July 1, 2012.

Mrs Lam has served the public for more than 36 years in 20 public service positions including Director of Social Welfare, Permanent Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands (Planning and Lands), Director-General of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Secretary for Development and Chief Secretary for Administration.

Mrs Lam was elected as the Fifth-Term Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on March 26, 2017, and was officially appointed to this position by the Central People’s Government on March 31, 2017 to assume office on July 1, 2017.

Mrs Lam is married and has two sons.




Vice Chairman, The 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, People's Republic of China; Founding Chairman, The China-United States Exchange Foundation and Our Hong Kong Foundation  

Mr Tung Chee-hwa is the Vice Chairman of the Twelfth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, People's Republic of China. He is the Founding Chairman of the China-United States Exchange Foundation and Our Hong Kong Foundation established in Honh Kong in 2008 and 2014 respectively. Prior to these appointments, Mr Tung served as First Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Administrative Region ("HKSAR"), People's Republic of China from July 1997 to March 2005.

Born in 1937 in Shanghai, Mr Tung spent his childhood in Hong Kong. He had his education in the United Kingdom, graduating at University of Liverpool with BSc in 1960. After that he lived and worked nine years in the United States with General Electric and in the family business respectively. In 1969, Mr Tung returned Hong Kong to help run the family business. He had a successful and distinguished career in business while at the same time served in various public sector and advisory positions in Hong Kong. In 1997, he took on the position as the first Chief Executive of HKSAR. 



Diplomat in Residence and Senior Fellow, Asia Society Policy Institute; Former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, the United States Department of State

Mr Daniel Russel joined the Asia Society Policy Institute as the diplomat in residence and senior fellow in April 2017. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service at the U.S. Department of State, he served until recently as the assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. Prior to his appointment as assistant secretary in July 2013, Mr. Russel served at the White House as a special assistant to the president and National Security Council senior director for Asian Affairs. During his tenure, he helped formulate President Obama’s strategic rebalance to the Asia Pacific region.



Adjunct Professor, Renmin University of China; Former Secretary General, Academic Committee of China's National Development and Reform Commission

Prof. Zhang Yansheng is the Chief Research Fellow of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE). He is also an adjunct professor at Peking University, Renmin University of China, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He has been awarded “Sun Yefang Prize of Economics Publication”, first prize of Beijing Municipal Philosophy and Social Science Outstanding Works, 1977-1991 Outstanding Works Prize of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), first prize of Outstanding Research Achievement of National Development and Reform Commission (Science and Technology Progress Award), and China Development and Research Prize; he also presided over the 9th collective study session of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on November 29, 2008.



Member, Standing Committee, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Honorary Chairman, Beijing Air Catering Company Limited; Lifetime Honorary Board Member, World Trade Centers Association

In 1980, Dr Annie Wu along with her father, Dr James Wu established the first joint venture between Hong Kong and Mainland China through the cooperation between the Civil Aviation Administration of China and Hong Kong Beijing Air Catering Ltd.  She is the honorary chairman/vice chairman of 16 air catering JVs which provide 45 per cent market share of air catering industry in Mainland China.

Following the establishment of World Trade Centers Association in 1970 in New York, Dr Wu was elected a board member in 1984. As a result of her efforts, over 35 cities in Mainland China joined the Association and linked to businesses in 92 countries to promote international trade.

Dr Wu serves on various advisory bodies and is particularly active in advancing the cause of women’s issues as well as education for youth. Her contributions to community have won her various awards for excellence.


Frank Newman

Chairman, China, Promontory Financial Group; Former Deputy Secretary, the United States Department of the Treasury; Former Chairman and CEO, Shenzhen Development Bank

Mr Frank Newman has served as the deputy secretary of the United States Department of the Treasury; chairman and CEO of Shenzhen Development Bank, a nationwide bank in China; chairman and CEO of Bankers Trust, an international bank based in New York; and CFO of Bank of America and of Wells Fargo Bank.

He currently serves as the chairman, China for Promontory Financial Group – an IBM company.

Mr Newman has written two books: Six Myths that Hold Back America - And What America Can Learn from the Growth of China’s Economy; and Freedom from National Debt

He has also written several articles on economic matters, published in the US, Hong Kong and mainland China.  

Mr Newman has served as a director for major public companies in the US, UK and China, and as a member of the Board of Trustees and the Investment Committee of Carnegie Hall. He earned his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude in Economics, at Harvard University.



American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong

Ms Tara Joseph has been the president of AmCham Hong Kong since February 2017. She is charged with overall responsibility for leadership and operations of one of the most influential NGO business organisations in the Asia Pacific, with a mission to foster commerce among the United States, Hong Kong and mainland China.

Ms Joseph has more than 15 years’ experience working in Asia, covering top economic and political stories as a foreign correspondent for Reuters. In her 22 years as journalist, she has reported on hundreds of the world’s most important and high profile news stories including Russia’s financial crisis, Myanmar’s emergence from virtual isolation and China's rise on the world stage.

Ms Joseph is a graduate of the Columbia University School of Journalism, and Smith College in the United States. She has twice served as the president of the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Hong Kong, one of the world’s largest press clubs.


Dr KAREN Reddington

President, Asia Pacific Division
FedEx Express

Ms Karen Reddington heads up the Asia Pacific division of FedEx Express since January 2015. She is responsible for leading the FedEx business across the region, including overall planning and implementation of corporate strategies and operations across more than 30 countries and territories with about 26,000 employees.

Ms Reddington began her career with FedEx Express in 1997 as an operations research advisor in Hong Kong. In 2002, she was promoted to the position of managing director, network planning. She served as the managing director of planning and engineering in 2007, where she led the successful rollout of the FedEx operations optimisation initiative as well as quality and service initiatives across the region. Most recently, Ms Reddington was regional vice president of FedEx Express in South Pacific. She served in that role between 2011 and 2014, based in Singapore.

Ms Reddington holds a PhD in operations research from The London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London.



Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Ms Jane Chen has held the position of Chief Information Officer of ZTE Corporation since January 2016, and is in charge of the IT & strategy planning of the company. Between 2002 and 2016, Ms Chen was the senior vice-president of the company and was in charge of the research and development of wireline products.

Ms Chen has excelled in a number of management and executive positions at ZTE, including senior vice president of network service, general manager of ZTE USA Inc. She also served as a senior research officer and supervisor of the research department in AT&T Bell Laboratories from 1995 to 1998.

Ms Chen graduated from Nanjing Institute of Postage and Telecommunication (later renamed as Nanjing Post and Communications University) in 1989, majoring in Telecommunications and Electronic Ordering Systems. She then earned her dual Master Degree in Computer Science and Technology in New York University.

Mr Hung Kwong-yee founded Ten Pao in 1979, now a premier one-stop smart power supply solutions provider to both leading and fast-growing international brands. Listed on the Main Board of HKEX in 2015, the group opened its first overseas production facility in Hungary in 2017. Prof. Witman Hung is currently the Principal Liaison Officer for Hong Kong, Shenzhen Qianhai Authority. He served as a part-time member of the Central Policy Unit of the HKSAR Government during 2012-2014, and is currently an academic committee member of China Silk Road iValley Research Institute, standing committee member of the Center for China and Globalization and Adjunct Professor of Jinan University.

Mr Duane Kuang is a founding managing partner of Qiming Venture Partners. He has close to 30 years of operational and investment experience and started his venture capital career since 1999. Prior to founding Qiming, Mr Kuang was the director of Intel Capital China where he led the strategic investment activities of Intel, and spent over five years at Cisco Systems in China, holding various senior management positions. He started his career in Silicon Valley as a software engineer and later an engineering manager in the data communications industry. His investments include ChinaCache, Cootek, DocIn, Qiniu, Yunzhisheng, Xiaoyi, Intelligent Automation, Face++ and UBTech. He is a governor of the China Venture Capital Association and a member of the venture capital committee of Asset Management Association of China.

Mr Kuang was born in China and educated in America. He holds an MBA degree from the University of California at Berkeley, a master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford University and a bachelor degree in Computer Science from San Francisco State University.

MTR Corporation

Mr Lincoln Leong has been the chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of the MTR Corporation since March 2015 and a member of the executive directorate since 2002. Mr Leong joined the company in February 2002 as the finance director, and was re-titled as the finance & business development director in May 2008. He was appointed as the deputy CEO in July 2012 and the acting CEO in August 2014. As the CEO, Mr Leong is responsible for the company’s overall performance in and outside of Hong Kong.

Prior to joining the company, Mr Leong worked in the accountancy and investment banking industries in London, Vancouver and Hong Kong. Mr Leong obtained a Bachelor of Arts (and subsequently a Master of Arts) from the University of Cambridge in 1982 and later qualified as a chartered accountant in England in 1985 and Canada in 1986.


Dr Eric Li

Dr Eric Li is the managing partner of Chengwei Capital and founder of Guancha.cn.

Dr Li serves on the board of directors of China Europe International Business School. He is also a trustee of Fudan University’s China Institute and chairman of its advisory council, and a trustee of Asia Society Hong Kong. He also serves on the Economic Development Commission of the Hong Kong SAR. 

Dr Li is on the boards of the Graduate School of Business and the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University, and is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies Council, which organises the annual Shangri-La Dialogue.

Dr Li is a trustee of the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive at the University of California, Berkeley. He is a trustee of the San Francisco Symphony and serves on the international board of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

Dr Li received his bachelor of arts in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Stanford Business School and PhD in Political Science from Fudan University.

Mr Gary Liu is the CEO of the South China Morning Post, a leading news media company that has reported on China and Asia for more than a century with global impact. Founded in 1903, the SCMP is headquartered in Hong Kong, where it is the city’s newspaper of record. Along with its flagship news products, SCMP is also Asia’s leading magazine publisher with a portfolio of premium lifestyle and fashion titles including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Esquire, Harper’s BAZAAR and The PEAK, and is home to cpjobs.com, a big data-powered recruitment platform.

Prior to joining the SCMP in January 2017, Mr Liu was the CEO of Digg, spearheading the New York startup’s transformation from aggregator to a data-driven news platform. Previously, he was the head of Spotify Labs, where he led emerging technologies and business strategies for Spotify’s global markets, after joining as the global director of Ad Product Strategy. Mr Liu has also worked at AOL and Google. 

Born in the United States, Mr Liu grew up in Taiwan and New Zealand, before returning to the American Northeast where he lived and worked for 20 years. Mr Liu is an Economics graduate from Harvard University.


Prof. Albert Park

Director, Institute for Emerging Market Studies; Chair Professor of Social Science; Professor of Economics, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Prof. Albert Park is a development and labour economist who is an expert on China’s economic development. He is the director of the Institute for Emerging Market Studies, chair professor of Social Science, professor of Economics, and senior fellow of the Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Prof. Park’s research and commentary have appeared in international media such as the South China Morning Post, the Economist and Bloomberg. Prof. Park has published articles in leading economics journals on firm performance, poverty and inequality, migration and employment, health and education, and the economics of aging in China. He has played a leadership role in numerous survey research projects in China including the China Employer-Employee Survey and the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. He previously held faculty appointments at the University of Michigan and Oxford University, and has consulted frequently for the World Bank.

Mr Tsai is the Chairman of the South China Morning Post Publishers.  He is also the Executive Vice Chairman of the Alibaba Group.

Mr Tsai joined Alibaba Group in 1999 as a member of the Alibaba founding team and has served as the executive vice chairman since May 2013. He has been a non-executive director of Alibaba Health since September 2015. He previously served as the chief financial officer and has been a member of the board of directors since our formation.

From 1995 to 1999, Mr Tsai worked in Hong Kong with Investor AB, the main investment vehicle of Sweden’s Wallenberg family, where he was responsible for Asian private equity investments. Prior to that, he was vice president and general counsel of Rosecliff, Inc., a management buyout firm based in New York. From 1990 to 1993, Mr Tsai was an associate attorney in the tax group of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, a New York-based international law firm. Mr Tsai serves on the boards of directors of several of Alibaba Group’s investee companies.

Mr Tsai is qualified to practice law in the State of New York. He received his bachelor’s degree in Economics and East Asian Studies from Yale College and a juris doctor degree from Yale Law School.

Dr Edward Tse is the founder and CEO of Gao Feng Advisory Company. A pioneer in China’s management consulting industry, Dr Tse built and ran the Greater China operations of two leading international management consulting firms for a period of 20 years. He has consulted to hundreds of companies – both headquartered in and outside of China – on all critical aspects of business in China and China for the world. He also consulted to the Chinese government on strategies, state-owned enterprise reform and Chinese companies going overseas. He is the author of over 200 articles and four books including both award-winning The China Strategy (2010) and China’s Disruptors (2015).

Mr John Woods is the managing director and chief investment officer Asia Pacific of Credit Suisse , responsible for developing regional discretionary and advisory investment strategies across asset classes and within asset classes for private and institutional clients in Asia Pacific. Mr Woods is a voting member of the Global Investment Committee of Credit Suisse and the chair of the Regional Investment Committee in Asia Pacific.

Prior to joining Credit Suisse in September 2015, Mr Woods was the managing director and head of Fixed Income Asia Pacific for Citi Investment Management. Before that, he served as the chief investment strategist, Asia Pacific at Citi Private Bank and was a voting member of the Global Investment Committee.

Mr Woods brings 25 years' investment management experience in Asia fixed income and currency markets, with special focus on portfolio management, trading and research. Among his previous roles, he was HSBC Global Market’s UK-based head of absolute return proprietary trading and the global head of credit research and strategy.

Mr Woods obtained his Master of Arts degree in Asia Pacific Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London.

AXA Investment Manager Asia Ltd

Mr Aidan Yao joins AXA Investment Managers Asia Ltd (AXAIM) in December 2013 as an emerging Asia economist, with a particular focus on the Chinese economy.

Prior to joining AXAIM, Mr Yao was a senior financial market analyst at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority for two years, covering financial market research and analysis for US, Europe and China.

Mr Yao started his career at the Reserve Bank of New Zealand in 2007, serving as an economist and later a senior financial market analyst until late 2011.

Mr Yao holds a Master Degree with distinction in Finance from the University of Otago in New Zealand. He is also a chartered financial analyst.
